KUTAHYA POTTERY...

Trade in pottery has existed in Turkey since the Selcuk Empire in the 11^th Century.  During the rule of the Ottomans the trade was located primarily in the town of Iznik, where tiles, tableware, and decorative pieces were created at the demand of the Sultan.  As the Ottoman Empire waned, the pottery traditions moved to Kutahya, where artisans today hand-make traditional, and more modern styles.

These fine pottery pieces are food safe, but we recommend hand washing. Because of the quartz in the ceramic itself, we do not advise use of the microwave.
